This is still under construction - so if you want to read the whole tale before I finsh it on this site, GO HERE. Where in the continental United States could a fella ride in a postcard picturesque environment for three thousand miles? I'd thought about it a bit, and since a riding buddy, Gerardo Ibarra was leaving the US for a while to return to Mexico on a quest, I'd figured that riding the Continental Divide from Montana to New Mexico would be a great send off for a good friend. After spending three great weeks riding with my buddy Mark Sampson, I was positive that riding the continental divide seemed to be the answer. However, fate interceded into a good plan, and several riding buddies, including Gerardo, ultimately couldn't make it happen. Despite that, Mark helped me set up a reverse route of the ride he'd done from Mew Mexico to Montana from the previous year. I should have been on that ride, but was precluded from riding along. Mike (lasvegasrider), Jeff (Jonz) and I finally were the last three of the original five adventurers that comitted to riding. We're no strangers to each other, having ridden some of the nether regions of Mexico together over the past few years. We're set to start on or about August 19th from Roosville, MT. It just so happens that it's my 42nd birthday too. My weapon of choice for this ride:
My 2003 KTM 640 Adventure. It's set up with resprung and revalved suspension, Dirt Bagz soft panniers and a Touratech rear rack plate, Wolfman tank bag, Emig 20mm offset triple clamps, damper and risers, Woody's Wheel Works wheels with Sun rims and heavy duty stainless spokes, full Akrapovic exhaust, rejetted Mikuni carburetor, a new motor built by Barry Higgins of H&H KTM, Garmin 276C, Enduro Engineering handguards, Mita HD tubes, and a variety of tires. The big fuel tank sure was worth the added weight.
